Caring for Body, Mind and Spirit Through the Colder Months

Winter asks something different of us. The days are shorter. The weather nudges us indoors. Our bodies can feel stiffer, our energy lower and our mood a little flatter than usual. It’s often the time of year when people tell me they feel run down, disconnected, or unsure how to look after themselves properly.

Yet winter can also be a powerful season for slowing down, nourishing ourselves and reconnecting with what we really need.

That’s why I love supporting people through winter – gently, practically and without pressure.

How We Move in Winter Matters

Movement in winter doesn’t need to be intense, punishing or exhausting. In fact, the opposite is often far more helpful.

I meet many people who say, “I know I should move more, but I don’t know where to start,” or “I can’t keep up with walking groups or fitness classes.” That can feel disheartening, and it can stop us moving at all.

What I’ve learned – and what I share in my group sessions – is that small, mindful movement is incredibly powerful. Gentle stretching. Simple exercises you can do standing or seated. A little dance. A short walk, with pauses to breathe, notice and reset.

Movement should support your body, not fight it.

Nourishing Yourself from the Inside Out

Winter is a time when our immune systems work harder and our bodies crave warmth and nourishment. What we eat and drink can make a real difference to how resilient we feel.

I’m passionate about helping people understand that they have choices. Supporting your gut, your immune system and your energy doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as paying attention to what truly helps you feel well, warm and sustained – physically and emotionally.

Education is a big part of what I do. I love sharing ideas, explaining the ‘why’ and empowering people to make informed choices that suit their own lives.

Looking After Your Mindset and Mood

Winter can feel isolating. It’s easy to retreat, cancel plans or feel less connected to others.

What I see again and again is how powerful it is when people come together. To talk honestly. To be heard. To realise they’re not the only ones feeling the way they do.

Mindfulness doesn’t have to mean sitting still for long periods or doing something ‘perfectly’. It can be woven into everyday moments – breathing, walking, noticing the world around you. Even something as simple as pausing to really look at what’s growing around us can shift how we feel.

Staying cheerful in winter isn’t about forcing positivity. It’s about creating moments of connection, warmth and presence.

A Community Space for Winter Wellbeing

Over the past few months, I’ve been running small, community-led wellbeing gatherings in Compton, West Berkshire. I’ve been so moved by how people have responded. The events are relaxed, welcoming and accessible. We move a little. We talk. We learn. We laugh. And we meet each other exactly where we are.

These sessions are about giving back, building connection and supporting people locally. They’re especially for anyone who feels excluded from traditional fitness or wellness spaces, or who simply want something gentler and more human.

In December, we focused on Winter Wellness. In January, we’ll be looking more closely at supporting the immune system. In February we’ll continue building on these themes as we move through the season together.

You’re Warmly Invited

My next Winter Wellness gathering takes place on 17 January 2026 from 10am-12pm in Compton Village Hall, with another session planned for February. If you’d like to:

  • Move your body gently and safely
  • Learn how to support yourself through winter
  • Feel more connected, energised and supported
  • Be part of a welcoming local community …

… then I’d love you to join us.

The event is free to attend, but please get in touch to reserve your space or to find out more. Come as you are. Let’s look after ourselves – body, mind and soul – through winter, together.
